Friday 5th July brings one of our favourite charity events of the year – the Walk in to the Light.
Now in to its 4th year, the event was the idea of Teesside Charity patrons Bill Scott (Wilton Engineering) and Alisdair Beveridge (Build Directory). Their vision was to create an opportunity for people to come together, challenge themselves physically, and raise vital funds and awareness for mental health support in Teesside.
Active’s Louise Woods takes on the challenge for the 4th time, joined this year by Rachel McCulloch, Jess Wilkinson and Andy Mitchell.
While most people will be climbing in to bed at 11pm, Team Active will be taking part in a different type of ‘climb.’ From the checkpoint HQ at Cod Beck reservoir and led by Phil and the excellent team at Overlimits, the 12 mile trek will descend through the forest, before crossing a ford, silently passing through the village of Swainby and then stopping briefly for some refreshments under the stars. The trek ends back at Cod Beck as dawn breaks and welcome drinks (and a well earned rest) are enjoyed.
The Walk into the Light organised by The Teesside Charity and in collaboration with Headlight Project, is more than just a walk. It’s a powerful statement of solidarity and hope – from darkness to light.
“It’s a lot tougher than people think” says Louise Woods “but talking, laughing and more importantly remembering why we are doing it really helps you along”
“I am very proud of the team for taking part in the ‘Walk in to the Light’ again this year” says MD Karl Pemberton “Last year, Team Active raised £700 towards the grand total of £14k, which has helped our friends at The Headlight Project deliver vital suicide awareness training to charity patrons”
